D Wilson, helping to shape today’s built environment. We’ve specialised in the design, manufacture and installation of staircases, balustrades and feature metalwork. Having produced distinctive and functional designs delivering the highest quality craftsmanship.
The team pride themselves on providing advice, direction and stewarding projects with the philosophy that clients need to have access to any member of the construction team from start to finish.
Design
We built our reputation on design solutions. Our in-house technicians are highly skilled in converting concepts into reality.
Technology
The latest in 3D drawing and high quality CGIs are produced showing a clear understanding of installations function and form. D Wilson are also BIM compliant.
Communication
We provide a single point of contact, an experienced team member to interface between your team, architects and PMs.
Installation
Large-scale to one-off projects, we’re able to provide a full turnkey solution from design, manufacture to installation.
Accredited
D Wilson hold accreditations for; BS EN ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 14001, BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3, FORS Gold, Constructionline, Builders Profile CHAS BSI and Cyber Essentials. We also have all the necessary industry required levels of insurance.
Local
Our central location in Birmingham enables us to distribute materials and labour throughout the UK easily and efficiently.
Our History
The D Wilson story, packed with over four decades of experience and counting
1972 - Wilberfab
The company started as Wilberfab in Harborne, Birmingham, operating out of a 1000 sqft premises with a team of five. It primarily manufactured single flight fire escape staircases, railings, balustrades, and similar items. The current four directors all began their careers in the 1980s.
1993 - Rebranded to ‘D. Wilson’
Ownership of the company passed from father to son, and the company rebranded to D. Wilson Architectural Metalwork Ltd, as it is known today.
2004 - Rapid growth and new unit
A rapid growth in the early 2000s led to a move to a 15000 sqft unit on Wellington Street in Winson Green, Birmingham.
2008 - Balconies installed at Highbury Stadium
Working directly with Sir Robert McAlpine, we had the pleasure to install new balconies for the new Highbury Square development after Arsenal moved to their new home - The Emirates Stadium.
2010 - Feature staircases for Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi
We had the pleasure to work with Hamilton Design to produce a stunning feature staircase for Ferrari World.
2011 - Balconies for the Athletes Village during the 2012 Olympic Games
We had the honour to work with Galliford Try to produce the balconies used with the Athletes village during the 2012 Olympic Games.
2015 - New premises on Middlemore Road, Birmingham
We invested in new premises located in Smethwick, Birmingham bringing all our services from administration to sales, design and manufacturing under one roof. With our capabilities, we are able to take on any stair case, balustrade, structural glass work and metalwork.
2016 - Balustrades and feature arcitectual metalwork at Canary Wharf Cross Rail
D Wilson worked with Canary Wharf Station, to work on some stunning Balustrades and feature metalwork.
2019 - £11.5m project of staircases and architectural metalwork at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
We worked with Mase on the breathtaking new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which consisted of staircases and architectural metalwork.
2022 - New 22,000 sqft factory at Parkrose Industrial Estate in Smethwick, Birmingham
To optimise production with advancing technology, the company moved to a purpose-built 22,000 sqft factory at Parkrose Industrial Estate in Smethwick, Birmingham. The company currently employs about 70 people. The production is primarily focused on feature staircases and government work.
2024 - Feature staircase at Sherwood Street, Piccadilly Circus
We worked with Wates Construction on a feature staircase project at Sherwood Street in Piccadilly Circus.
